Meet Dr. Rachel Winters

I grew up on a family farm and ranch near Martin, SD where I was instilled the values of faith, family, integrity, and of course hard work. My family always encouraged me to shoot for the stars and get an education. That is exactly what I did!

I began my journey into Chiropractic while studying at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD. With the help of an amazing advisor, I zoned in on my fascination with the human body and began shadowing numerous occupations in the health care field. While working at Rapid City Regional Hospital as a Nurses Aid I came to the realization that I absolutely loved the interaction with patients, but that I wanted to help them before they got to this point. That is when I turned to Chiropractic. I shadowed some amazing clinics throughout the Black Hills and truly became inspired from the practice of holistic medicine and the body’s ability to heal itself if given the right tools. I graduated with my Bachelors in Exercise Science, received minors in Athletic Coaching, Biology, and Small Business Management; and headed to Chiropractic school at Northwestern Health Science University.

3.5 years of vigorous courses, internships, seminars, five national board exams, and numerous mentors along the way, I graduated Northwestern with a Doctorate of Chiropractic: Sports Emphasis. I am continually amazed of how the human body was made to be able to heal itself, and learn new ways everyday on how I can help.

My Philosophy:

The way God created the body to function, adapt, and heal itself is amazing. There is a time and place for all medicine, but as I start to grow my family of patients and connections, my philosophy is to aid the bodies ability to heal and function primarily through the holistic stimulation of the nervous system with chiropractic manipulations. I also add in secondary treatments including: craniosacral myofacial therapy, acupuncture, taping, cupping, and scraping.

What I Offer:

Chiropractic manipulations are my primary modality of treatment. It is my belief, along with many other chiropractic professionals, that proper alignment of the spine takes pressure off the spinal nerves. That relief of pressure allows the communication running through the nerves to flow with ease to the target tissues, allowing the tissues to function optimally. Better function means a better quality of life, which is my main goal as a provider. The extra assistance of acupuncture, cupping, scraping, craniosacral myofacial unwinding, and taping can aid in the body’s ability to hold the adjustments and improve overall function quicker.

Pregnancy and child birth can take a toll on both mom and baby. As baby grows in mom there is more stress applied to her skeletal system. Assisting in her body transformation while both growing and preparing to bring another precious being into the world is a beautiful thing. As chiropractors, we are able to help mom through any added pressure put on her musculoskeletal system as she grows her young one. We are also very important as she prepares for birth to make sure her pelvis is properly aligned to allow the baby to pass through the birth canal smoothly. Following the miracle of birth, it is essential to get the baby examined and adjusted to “start them off on the right foot” of proper function and growth. It is also important to continue with care throughout the major developmental milestones like rolling, crawling, and walking.

The expression “muscle memory” doesn’t just apply to doing a specific activity, but also the trauma that you have encountered since you were in utero. If you had a traumatic birth, fell, slid, bumped against something, emotional trauma, or been in some sort of accident, your myofacial system absorbs the impact and remembers the incident. If the muscle tissues aren’t relaxing and the adjustments aren’t holding, I start looking at the fascia. This modality allows me to assist the patient energetically as they relax their body and unwind their effected fascia. Results include: increasing the energy and blood flow into the fascia, lengthening the fascia, and allowing the cerebral spinal fluid to flow smoothly.

In addition, I also offer acupuncture, cupping, scrapping, and taping services.
